LOOKING TO GET YOUR HAIR BACK?

Here at The Hair Dr, our skilled surgeons will guide you through the FUE transplant step by step, explaining how the procedure is performed. We understand our patients’ needs and expectations, which is why we provide complete personalised care starting from your very first consultation. Hair transplants are a life changing procedure with advanced surgery that leaves patients with natural, youthful looking appearances.

How FUE Works:

FUE, otherwise known as Follicular Unit Extraction, is an advanced level of hair transplant. Healthy hair follicles are removed directly from a donor area on the scalp (usually at the back of the head where the hair is plentiful) and grafted onto bald or thinning areas. Hair is handled with extreme care ensuring minimal trauma to the hair follicles. There is no detectable scarring and, in most cases, patients are able to return to work the next day.

The FUE transplant is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, during which you will remain fully conscious throughout as only local anaesthetic is required. Recovery time is short and the risk of complications is low. This greatly improves the survival rate of the newly transplanted grafts. FUE has been proven extremely effective and has been growing in popularity as a result of the significant advantages it provides.

We restore your smile as well as your hair

THE FUE PROCEDURE

All of the hair is shortened to 2-4 mm

A local anaesthetic is administered in the area of extraction

Manual extraction of individual hair roots

Examination of the grafts and storage are in Petri dishes with a nutrient solution, so that the grafts do not die

The hair roots are implanted surgically

Follow-up examination will be booked post treatment

Advantages:

Avoids a long lineal scar, so after the hair transplant
you can still have a short hairstyle

Minimal post-operative wound pain.

Transplant offers significantly more grafts per session, up to 5,000 grafts.

Due to the clear view, 60-70 grafts per centimetre squared are achieved

SEEING RESULTS IMMEDIATELY WITH A FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

You will be able to see the outline of your new hair line immediately after the procedure. Transplanted hairs will have re-grown fully within 6-12 months and the bald patch or receding hair line will have disappeared. The results will be permanent and completely natural in appearance.

The FUE transplant uses a specialised punch device to extract follicular units from the donor area, complete with their necessary glands. Follicles are then transferred to the recipient area on the scalp, and implanted using a stereo microscope in groups of one to four hairs, just as they grow in nature. This technique separates surrounding tissue from the unit, causing minimal trauma and reducing the risk of any detectable scarring.

Hair transplants are performed under local anaesthetic, typically alongside a low concentration of adrenaline to limit bleeding. Between 1,000 and 3,000 follicle grafts are then carefully harvested and transplanted from donor to recipient sites.

FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT – FAQ’s

What is FUE?

Follicular Unit Extraction. It is the individual removal of hair follicles in their naturally occurring groupings of 1-4 hairs. A special tool is used to create about a 1mm incision where the hairs are then removed.

How long does it take?

Typically, the FUE transplant takes seven to eight hours dependant on the size and number of grafts. The surgery may require multiple sessions.

Is there any scarring from FUE?

We are committed to advancing the practice of FUE transplant to ensure each patient receives a natural result with minimal scarring that is discreet and difficult to detect. There is no visible mark left from the donor area as the suture is hidden behind the existing hair, this suture can be removed approximately one week post-op.

Is the FUE procedure painful?

FUE is not a painful procedure, although as with most minor surgery there is expected to be a certain level of discomfort. The anaesthesia is administered into the scalp so the actual procedure is pain free.

Will the results be natural?

We have a strict protocol that ensures we only have doctors completing the placement to ensure the naturalness of the final result. The FUE transplant procedure requires excellent surgical skills and natural artistic flair. We encourage you to view our gallery to see how we achieve these results which are the hallmark of a great hair transplant.

What can I expect after Hair Transplant surgery?

Each patient in aftercare is treated individually and is required to adhere to any instructions provided in a care plan. Typically, the head is bandaged overnight and there will be some small scabs for 4-10 days. The donor hair should shed within 14-28 days and hair growth will commence in 3-4 months.

How much does the FUE Procedure Cost?

The cost of the procedure depends on the number of grafts and the complexity of the area to be transplanted. Each treatment includes check-ups and post-operative medications. Due to the challenging nature of corrective surgery we have to examine patients in detail before providing a cost estimate.

How long will my head stay red?

The FUE transplant can be carried out within just one day. Due to the nature of the procedure, the head will show some signs of redness where the new follicles are inserted. However, this should only last 3-7 days with the correct aftercare.
