A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that removes bald or thinning areas of the scalp. You may also hear a hair transplant referred to as a “hair restoration” or “hair replacement” procedure.
Our hair transplant procedures remove small grafts of hair from donor areas of the scalp. Also called “donor sites,” these areas of the scalp are located at the back of the head, the nape of the neck, and above the ears. These areas are usually not affected by hair loss caused by certain medical conditions, making the donor sites optimal for obtaining hair grafts for a hair transplant. The hair is removed in small, natural clusters or follicular units that have between 1-4 hairs each. These units are usually 0.75-1mm wide.

Once the hair grafts are removed, hair follicles are checked and cleaned under a microscope. This is essential to ensure the success of each follicle. Once they’ve been checked and cleaned, the follicular units are stored in a special holding solution. During this time, the surgeon works to create recipient sites where hair loss is a problem on the scalp.
The surgeon will then transplant the follicular clusters to create a natural-looking hairline. The entire process can take between 4-8 hours, though the time necessary varies, depending on how much scalp area needs to be treated for hair loss.
